Portland has a unique, somewhat sordid,
history. Let’s celebrate it this New Years Eve by paying homage to those who
laid the groundwork to make this city great. Picture early 19th
century Stumptown, where
steam power is still widely used, add into that the elements of Victorian era England, and
top it off with either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional
technological inventions like those found in the works of H.G. Wells and Jules
Verne. Enter the world of Steampunk Fashion. A unique, beautiful, and sometimes
disturbing look that touches on theold-fashioned, but speaks to the future in a punkish way.
Portland’s
history speaks of innovation, industry and eccentrics. This year’s 2nd Annual Shanghai Nights celebration honors that
past by welcoming in the New Year with an imaginative mix of art, music, fashion, and dance. No place is that better exhibited than with artist, Daniel Work, a Painter for the People. On any given weekend, you'll find him selling his affordable and beautiful art by the stack at Portland's Saturday Market. Work will be designing, painting, and selling the Shanghai Nights commemorative posters LIVE at the Wonder on NYE. Keep your eye on those posters. If you see one you like, get it quick, because each one is an original.
